After premiering in the Orizzonti section of la Mostra de Venezia, Sérgio Tréfaut's The Bride was competing in the 19th Seville European Film Festival in the New Waves selection, which offers pioneering values and/or unique perspectives on contemporary European cinema. 

The film was awarded the Special Prize "for a new and close look at a reality as contemporary as the brides of ISIS. For the courage to portray a woman in an extreme situation without victimizing her. And for its ability to denounce such a forgotten subject with an attractive formal proposal."
