“The Child” by Marguerite de Hillerin and Félix Dutilloy-Liégeois selected for the Tiger Competition of Rotterdam Film Festival

We are proud to announce that “The Child”, first feature by Marguerite de Hillerin and Félix Dutilloy-Liégeois, has been selected for the Tiger Competition of the upcoming edition of IFFR – International Film Festival Rotterdam (January 26th to February 6th).

A free adaptation of Heinrich von Kleist’s short story “Der Findling”, “The Child” is an extraordinary family fresco set by the directors and screenwriters in Portugal in mid 16th century, near Lisbon, by then a cosmopolitan capital living between the fading height of the Expansion and the prepotency of the rising power of the Inquisition. Bela, a young boy adopted by a rich couple of French-Portuguese merchants, is living a love story with Rosa, and a friendship with Jacques, a cultivated friend of his adoptive parents. He’s still trying to find his way and his place, but a series of events caused by misunderstandings, ambiguities and jealousy lead to the disaster.

Produced by Paulo Branco and Juan Branco, “The Child” is a French-Portuguese co-production by Alfama Films and Leopardo Films and features a remarkable cast of French and Portuguese actors, among them Gregory Gadebois (“An Officer and a Spy”, by Roman Polanski), Loïc Corbery (of La Comédie-Française; “Guermantes”, by Christophe Honoré), João Arrais (“Mysteries of Lisbon”, by Raúl Ruiz; “Gloria”, a Netflix series), Alba Baptista (“Mr. Harris Goes to Paris”, by Anthony Fabian) and Albano Jerónimo (“The Domain”, by Tiago Guedes; “The One”, a Netflix series). Mário Barroso is the cinematographer.

“The Child” will be released in Portugal on the 10th of February and in France on the 13th of April.
